Financial Aid for Study Abroad

Apply for aid the same way you apply for on-campus study: by completing the FAFSA as soon as possible.

Check with a financial aid counselor well in advance of your trip to make sure you have taken the necessary steps to receive financial aid while participating in your study abroad program.

FINANCIAL AID FOR SHORT TERM STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS

If your study abroad program is shorter than the length of a standard SDSU semester (15 weeks), the Financial Aid office must determine if you and the program can qualify for financial aid. Spring Break and Winter Break programs are not eligible for Financial aid. Summer exchanges and Global Seminars could qualify for financial aid.

Consult a Financial Aid counselor as early as possible once you decide to study abroad so you don’t miss important deadlines or funding opportunities!
