Henry Villegas, Ph.D.
Dean of Students for SDSU-Imperial Valley
Dr. Henry Villegas has 28 years of experience in higher education administration,
having served as the Assistant Athletic Director at Indiana State University, the
Associate Athletic Director for Student Development at the University of New Mexico.
He currently serves as the Associate Director of Educational Opportunity Programs
and Ethnic Affairs at San Diego State University, where he oversees the retention
efforts of the unit. Villegas received his associate’s degree in liberal studies from
Southwestern Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science Education from
Indiana State, his Master’s Degree in Counseling from Indiana State University and
his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from The University of New Mexico in 2016.
His research centered on the impact of college athletics on Black student-athlete
social mobility.
